Optifai’s 2026 B2B benchmark shows many teams still take a day or more to answer inbound—Thursday night coverage is where Texas lead ops quietly leak revenue.
Most lead-ops dashboards look fine at 2 p.m. The leak shows up on the overnight queue: a roof or home-seller form at 9:40 p.m., an auto seller enquiry after the BDC logs off, a “call me tomorrow” that never gets a same-night text.
Optifai’s Pipeline Study (2026, N=939 B2B companies, Q2 2025–Q1 2026) puts the average B2B response time at about 47 hours. Only 23% of companies respond inside five minutes. 42% take longer than 24 hours. In that same study, contact inside five minutes mapped to about a 32% close rate versus about 12% when first contact slipped past 24 hours—directional benchmarks, not a guarantee for your funnel.
Form fills were especially slow in their channel cut: about 28 hours on average to first sales activity, with best-in-class nearer 3 hours and the worst near 96 hours.
Roofing and real-estate shoppers often browse after kids are in bed. Automotive seller forms show up when someone is frustrated with a payment or a repair estimate. If your first human touch is tomorrow afternoon, you are auctioning attention to whoever texted at 9:41 p.m.
Product mix changes the follow-up script—not the need for speed:
Invalid-lead questions are handled case by case—do not invent refund or credit policies in your playbooks or ads.
Own the after-hours queue. Rotate a hunter or answering service with a written handoff—not a shared inbox nobody checks.
Acknowledge in minutes, even if the full pitch waits. A short “got it—here are two times tomorrow” text beats silence.
Route by product before round-robin. Roof/RE exclusive leads and auto competing-offer leads need different talk tracks; wrong-rep speed is still a miss.
Measure night-shift time-to-first-touch separately. Blended “average response” hides the overnight failures.
Audit 20 recent after-6 p.m. leads every Thursday. If half waited until morning, fix staffing before you buy more traffic.
Takeaway: Optifai’s 2026 benchmark says a large share of B2B teams still take a day or more to respond. Thursday night is when that shows up in Texas lead ops—cover the overnight queue, especially on exclusive roof/RE leads and fast-ack auto seller enquiries.
